SLEEP APPLIANCES
Mandibular advancement devices (MADs) are widely used as a non-invasive treatment option for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). These custom-made oral appliances work by repositioning the lower jaw (mandible) slightly forward during sleep, which helps to keep the airway open by preventing the collapse of soft tissues in the throat. This forward positioning increases the size of the upper airway, reduces airway resistance, and minimizes the interruptions in breathing that occur in sleep apnea.
MADs are commonly recommended for patients with mild to moderate OSA, particularly those who cannot tolerate continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. They also help reduce snoring, improve sleep quality, and alleviate daytime fatigue caused by sleep apnea. These devices are custom-fitted to ensure comfort and effectiveness.
